Patients should book in with their Doctor at the beginning of the pregnancy.
The Doctor will discuss accurate dating, required blood tests and will give the patient a referral to either a private Obstetrician or to the Public Hospital Antenatal Clinic.
The antenatal care over the whole of the pregnancy can be done as shared care between your Doctor and Obstetrician.
Vaccinations required through your pregnancy can be organised through your doctor. Vaccinations such as the influenza and Whooping cough are available for pregnant women. Influenza Vaccination should be done in the third trimester (between 28 and 32 weeks) or as soon as possible coming into the flu season regardless of which trimester they are in to ensure the best protection against the flu. Both Influenza and Whooping cough can be given to pregnant women at the same time but only in their third trimester.
